Sweden must act stronger for women's right to use and own land
Representatives from the Agroforestry Network, amongst them Focali researchers Anders Malmer and Johanna Björklund, writes in a debate article about how Sweden need to act stronger to promote women's right to use and own land.
"Sweden defines its foreign policy as feminist. One area in focus is to strengthen women’s economic empowerment by, among other things, promoting non-discriminatory legislation. Today women are discriminated in regards to the rights to use and own forest land. We now demand that Sweden, within the frame of international cooperation, actively work to strengthen women's rights to use and own forest.
Experts from all over the world have highlighted that securing women's rights to forests contributes to increased biodiversity, sustainable forestry and improved household economy. With secured land rights women not only increase their status but also improve their possibilities to participate in decision making and contribute with valuable knowledge. This can have great impact on establishment of national action-plans for climate and equality."
