Anna Tengberg

Programme Manager at Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), Swedish Water House (SWH) and adjunct professor at Lund University Centre for Sustainability Studies (LUCSUS).

Background:

Anna has a PhD in Physical Geography from Gothenburg University and was a Post Doc 1996-1997 at the School of Development Studies, University of East Anglia, UK. She has lived and conducted fieldwork and research in many different parts of the world and published papers on various aspects of natural resources management and land degradation assessment. She was a UN employee for more than a decade between 1999-2010, first with UNEP Headquarters in Nairobi and later with the UNDP Regional Centre for Asia-Pacific where she was responsible for the sustainable land management and integrated ecosystem management portfolios at global level. She is currently linked to SIWI and LUCSUS in Sweden, but also consult for UN agencies, such as UNEP, IFAD and FAO.

Research focus:

Anna works with the thematic area Water, Forests, Food and Landscapes at SIWI or, in short, Water for Resilient Landscapes. The work is conducted through cluster groups/multi-stakeholder platforms that gather Swedish and international expertise to explore emerging water issues related to the thematic area. Anna is also involved in SIWI’s ongoing Sida-funded project in Ethiopia on Strengthening Water and Landscape Governance (EWLGP), and helps develop an International Training Programme (ITP) on Locally Controlled Forest Restoration – A Governance and Market Oriented Approach to Resilient Landscapes where SIWI collaborates with the Swedish Forest Agency (lead) and Eco-innovation.

Through LUCSUS, she has also been involved in a series of Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded activities on assessment of land degradation and will continue to work with a recently approved GEF project on Assessment of the Great Green Wall Initiative in the Sahara and the Sahel.
