COP17 post-match analysis – is biodiversity action accelerating?

Official logo and slogan of COP17 taking place in Yerevan Armenia October 19-30, 2026. Read more on the official website for COP17.

Ambitions were high ahead of the UN Biodiversity Conference, held in Yerevan Armenia from 19 to 30 October, which set out totake stock of progress on the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF) and chart a new path forward. But what was actually achieved? We invite all interested to join our online post-match analysis where we will assess what did and did not happen at COP17.

As in previous years, Focali, SEI, LiU - CSPR and BECC - LU, invite a broad range of actors to explore the outcomes of the most recent UN Biodiversity Conference. This time, negotiators, researchers, the private sector, civil society and representatives from Indigenous Peoples organizations will share their reflections on the most important outcomes of COP17 as well as needed next steps. Some questions that will be raised to the panelists are: Which critical issues were not resolved at COP17? Where are the most important implementation gaps? What will the Yerevan Pathway mean? How will the COP17 decisions impact biodiversity financing? How were Indigenous People’s perspectives reflected? Which role did science play? And how did geopolitical tensions influence negotiations?

We invite you to bring your own questions about what really happened in the negotiation rooms and side-discussions in Yerevan.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about COP and what´s next to accelerate biodiversity action as the world approaches the halfway point toward the Global Biodiversity Framework’s 2030 targets. Stay tuned on this event page for updates in the list of confirmed panelists below, the agenda and register to join us for this online post-match analysis November 5th - the week in between biodiversity COP17 and climate COP31.
